Musicale Etiquette

PLEASE REVIEW WITH YOUR STUDENTS
PRIOR TO RECITALS

1. Once a student is scheduled to perform on a recital, it is his/her responsibility to be present and punctual. Students are to arrive 15 minutes early and to check in with the Program Chairman for seating arrangements.
2. Girls and boys should wear nice attire. Jeans and shorts are not allowed. Girls should wear a nice dress, a nice skirt and blouse, or a nice pants suit. Boys can wear a suit and tie, or they can wear a nice dress shirt and dress pants.
3. Students should bring their music scores and leave them at their seat while performing.
4. Approach and leave the bench from the front of the state. (Do not walk around the back of the bench.) If the bench needs adjusting, do so after you are seated. Find the pedals before you begin to play.
5. When you are finished playing, please acknowledge the audience with a smile and a bow.
6. Family and friends are welcome to attend. If small children are restless, please feel free to sit near the door. Otherwise, everyone is asked to remain seated for the entire program.
7. Flash photographs should not be taken during the performance. Pictures may be taken when the performance is ended.
8. Please refrain from talking and whispering while someone is performing.
9. All pagers and cellular phones should be turned off (or silenced) before the recital begins.
10. Do not applaud until a student has finished all his/her selections.
11. Please enter and exit the recital ONLY during the applause between performers. It is very distracting to the student who is playing when others enter or exit during his/her performance. (The only exception would be with restless younger children.)
